Codenames is a social word game with a simple premise and challenging game play. Two rival spymasters know the secret identities of 25 agents. Their teammates know the agents only by their codenames. The teams compete to see who can make contact with all of their agents first. Spymasters give one-word clues that can point to multiple words on the table. Their teammates try to guess words of their color while avoiding those that belong to the opposing team. And everyone wants to avoid the assassin. The game works very well with 4 players if you prefer to guess without help. Or you can add more players if you prefer lively discussion. There is also a cooperative variant where a single team tries to achieve the highest score they can by playing against the game itself.

October 2, 1900 – it’s 28 years to the day that noted London eccentric, Phileas Fogg accepted and then won a bet that he could travel “Around the World in 80 Days.” Now, at the dawn of the century, some old friends have gathered to celebrate Fogg’s impetuous and lucrative gamble – and to propose a new wager of their own. The stakes: $1 million in a winner-takes-all competition. The objective: to see the most cities in North America – in just 7 days. Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure game. For 2 to 5 players ages 8 and older. Playing time: 30-60 minutes. Comes with: 1 Board map of North American train routes, 240 Colored Train Cars, 110 Train Car cards, 30 Destination Tickets, 5 Wooden Scoring Markers, 1 Days of Wonder Online access number, and a Rules booklet.
This is the base game. I can’t emphasize that enough. This review will only handle the base game, minus expansions.
LEARNING CURVE: This game is extraordinarily simple and straightforward to learn. Played once through, it makes plenty of sense and opens doors to more complex rules and gameplay.
GAME SPEED: 1-2 hours for 4 players. Game moves briskly but with obvious early-, mid-, and end-game stages that each have their own strategies and approaches. Game easily resumed from a paused state if you take a break.
The Ladybug Game-Best Board Game For Boys and Girls
This is a great little game for younger children. My 4-1/2 grandson loved playing it, and it’s easy enough that I’m sure the 3 year old will love it too, and be able to play with only minor help. It’s really good for teaching/reinforcing numbers and counting in a fun way. It’s not a cooperative game, but it’s also not competitive; there’s no competing against the other players, there’s just finding your own way to the finish line. I was surprised that after playing the game last night, it was the first thing my grandson asked for again this morning. And my grandson was very impressed that it was created by a 1st grader — I’m hoping that thought will stimulate his own creativity! It’s not a cooperative game, but it’s also not competitive; there’s no competing against the other players, there’s just finding your own way to the finish line.
If you loved playing the Candy Land board game when you were a child, you can share the experience with your loved ones and start down the “magical” road to sweet surprises! This adorable version of the classic Candy Land game features gingerbread men as movers, colored cards, and fun illustrations that kids love, with different destinations like Cookie Commons and the chunky Chocolate Mountain. Players choose their cards, move their pawns, and let their imaginations soar as they make their way to the castle to win! For 2 to 4 players.
Count on big laughs when you and your friends get together to find out who’s an artist and who really isn’t! In this quick-draw classic, the guesses can be just as hilarious as the sketches as you use markers to draw your best rendition of the clue on the card. You have one minute to convey what’s on the card. Is it an animal? A person? An action? Just what is that word you’re drawing?? If your team members just aren’t getting it, try a different direction; you never know what kinds of clues might trigger the answer. You take turns drawing, so all players get to channel their inner artists! And the laughs just keep coming! Pictionary now includes two erasable markers, erasable boards for drawing, and an updated Pop Culture category of clues. Year after year since 1985, Pictionary has proven itself to be the ultimate party game!
